With a splendid day for the occasion, the 300 participants met at the XV San Juan Swimming Crossing - Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. The day began with a heartfelt memory in the tribute that organizers, swimmers and fans paid to the recently deceased swimmer Alejandro Candela. To the sounds of a saxophonist, the presidents of Club Nadamas and Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Carlos Fernández and Julio Romero, respectively, had words of remembrance for the unfortunate athlete.
Subsequently, the flag of the R.C.N.A. was lowered to half-mast, where it will remain for three days. The presidents, accompanied by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, and the Deputy Mayor of Arrecife, David Duarte, went out in a zodiac to the bay of Arrecife to throw a wreath of flowers into the sea in memory of Alejandro. A mural was placed with Candela's image in front of which a minute of silence was observed, later the swimmers were able to sign it so that it remains in the César Manrique Hall of the R.C.N.A.
