Last Saturday, Las Cucharas bay hosted the first wingfoil regatta held to mark the 50th anniversary of the tourist and residential area of Costa Teguise and also to pay tribute to the 40-year-old lifeguard who died in February, Gonzalo Nin de Battisti, who was a great fan of this new water sport.
Industry professionals such as Antxon Otaegui and Mar Boronat were the organizers of this event, together with Eric Yodjoglú, who addressed a heartfelt speech to his widow, Ana Maroto, his brothers and his fellow lifeguards and other friends and acquaintances of the Costa Teguise sports community, who highlighted his great passion for wingfoil.
The top 3 finishers were Jorge Padilla, Alejandro Bethencourt and Manuel Morillo, but the event had a total of 16 participants who sailed on the waves of Las Cucharas bay in Costa Teguise, a wave spot recognized worldwide for its optimal conditions for sailing sports and that has been part of the evolution of Costa Teguise thanks to the magnificent conditions it offers for windsurfing, such as a pleasant temperature, frequent trade winds, good facilities and several specialized schools along the coast where you can learn to take the first steps or expand your knowledge of this spectacular water sport.
