The lack of wind was once again the main protagonist of the last day of regattas of the XXVI Canary Islands Championship of 5 Meter Dinghies of Canarian Latin Sailing. A final test that was marked by the fight between Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani and Furia II – Nissan throughout the regatta field and with the title of champion at stake. A Canary Islands Championship of 5 Meter Dinghies of Canarian Latin Sailing that was decided on the side of Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani of Nete Armas.

The Regatta Committee once again used its ingenuity to design the regatta field for the last day of the Canary Islands Championship. As happened on Sunday, one of the buoys was located in the La Bufona area and the other in front of the facilities of the Insular Center for Water Sports, in Marina Colón. A regatta field that had to be shortened due to the lack of wind, with the finish line located upwind next to the old commercial dock of Arrecife.

The regatta began with a wind of about seven knots, an intensity that decreased with the development of the regatta, which forced the course to be shortened so that the dinghies were out of the water before it began to get dark. From the beginning, Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani and Furia II – Nissan broke away from the rest of the dinghies, mounting the first two buoys of the course in first and second position.

In the second lap of the regatta field, Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani and Furia II – Nissan began to mark each other, performing the same maneuvers. A circumstance that was used by the rest of the dinghies to fight for the triumph of the regatta. The Guatiza, a dinghy that was skippered by David Martín this Monday, won the regatta. The Archipiélago Grúas San Ginés of Orlando Umpiérrez came in second position and third was the Biosfera Express of Manri Rodríguez.

The emotion was focused on knowing the positions that Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani and Furia II – Nissan would occupy, with the two boats playing for the title of champion of the Canary Islands. The dinghy skippered by Estanis Bethencourt came in sixth position and a few seconds later Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani came in.

At the conclusion of the regatta, the Regatta Committee filed a protest against Guatiza for the change of skipper on Monday. The Protest Committee, chaired by the sole judge Luis Jordan, upheld the protest and disqualified Guatiza for non-compliance with the internal regulations of the Canary Islands Federation of Canarian Latin Sailing Dinghies and regatta announcement for being presented out of time and without justification.

Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani, skippered by Nete Armas, is proclaimed champion of the XXVI Canary Islands Championship of 5 Meter Dinghies of Canarian Latin Sailing. The disqualification of Guatiza causes Furia II – Nissan of Estanis Bethencourt to take the runner-up position and Fayna of Alfredo Morales rises to third place. The top five positions are completed with the fourth place of Biosfera Express of Manri Rodríguez and the fifth position of Guatiza.

The boats from Lanzarote have been the great dominators of the Canary Islands Championship of 5 Meter Dinghies of Canarian Latin Sailing, occupying the first eight positions in the general classification. The best boat from Fuerteventura has been the Gran Vito skippered by Víctor Fragiel, classified in ninth position. And the CRI-Ricoh skippered by Adrián Morales has been the best boat from Gran Canaria, occupying the thirteenth position.
