What does Spain need?

September 25 2019 (22:41 WEST)

Spain is a failed state with a mortgaged present and an unviable future. The irrefutable facts are that we have a debt of 1.2 trillion euros that keeps increasing, a budget deficit of 3% of GDP and growing, a falling GDP, an unemployment rate of 14% and increasing, and job creation plummeting. We are the only democracy in the world that has had 4 general elections in 4 years, we have no general budgets or clear objectives to pursue. We suffer attempted coups d'état by our own institutions and exercise infinite naivety towards those who invade us with violence. The Social Security system is bankrupt and pensions are unsustainable, these two facts not being an impediment for the acting president, and without any parliamentary control, to announce that Spain is going to contribute 150 million euros to the UN Green Fund, with the same frivolity and unilateralism with which he uses the Falcon to go to family weddings. From which budget items, if there is no budget; with whom has he agreed to that expense; why 150 and not 200 or 300 million? We are getting used to the plagiarist parading around the world posturing with our money, with our present and with our future.

But, given that there are general elections soon and availing myself of the freedom of expression that still assists me, I am going to propose in this opinion article a series of measures that would radically change the sad panorama that leads us to disaster. Here they go:

Application sine die of 155 in Catalonia. Dissolution of the Catalan Parliament and the Generalitat. Closure of TV3. Dissolution of the Mossos d'Esquadra enabling a transitional period for constitutionalists to integrate into the National Police. Permanent deployment of the Army, Civil Guard and National Police in Catalonia. Activate the State Attorney General to arrest and bring to justice Torra, Torrent and other senior coup leaders of the current autonomous institutions of Catalonia. This entire exceptional situation should be prolonged as long as necessary and, in any case, until the permanent coup intention disappears.

Prohibition of the existence of political parties whose objectives are to violate laws and the destruction of Spain. Banning of political parties that propose the destruction of Spain.

Shielding our borders from illegal immigration. Building electrified walls wherever pressure requires it. Expelling any illegal person who is in Spain, whether adult or minor. Repealing all regulations that generate a call effect, of universal health care for non-Spaniards. Frontal opposition to European policies of quotas for hosting migrants from Muslim countries.

Elimination of the Senate. Reformulation of powers, downwards, of the autonomous statutes. Reduction, downwards, of the Assemblies and the autonomous Parliaments; so much so that they remain at a third of the current composition.

Rescue of powers transferred to the Autonomous Communities such as Education, Health, management of Justice, tax and fiscal management and management of national parks. Homogenization of basic services throughout Spain and for any Spaniard.

Elimination of 100% of political advisors. Drastic reduction of official vehicles to the proportional level of the USA, which has 412 with 350 million inhabitants compared to the more than 10,000 that we have in Spain with 47 million. Elimination of inexplicable perks to former presidents of the government of Spain and autonomous communities.

Adaptation, downwards, of the autonomous governments to their new reality of powers. So much so that they remain at 25% of their current dimension.

Repeal all legislation that grants 50% of the population special treatment compared to the other 50% that it discriminates against. Legislatively address problems of violence in the family environment respecting article 14 of the Constitution.

Reach a state pact that marks a budgetary and fiscal roadmap so that in four decades Spain liquidates the public debt. In a five-year period, the elimination of the public deficit. In a decade, the elimination of the Social Security hole. And develop a plan that makes pensions viable and legislate to shield them.

Maximum reduction of taxes and fiscal burden on companies, self-employed and individuals. Decrease in public interventionism and promotion of business activity.

Elimination of all autonomous police forces and strengthening of the Civil Guard and National Police. Enabling the incorporation of autonomous personnel into the National Police.

Shielding the use of the Spanish language throughout Spain as the only valid one to apply for positions. Catalans or Basques must have the same right to obtain a position in the Canary Islands as the Canarians in Catalonia or the Basque Country.

In democracy, any desire can be made a reality, as long as said desire has the appropriate support. On November 10, Spaniards have the opportunity to elect the Legislative Power that will elect the president who will lead the Executive Power. I am convinced that the vast majority of Spaniards agree with the 12 points of my proposal; I hope there is a political force that assumes them and I hope many millions of compatriots support that force that takes us away from the black hole that haunts us. I hope we embrace viability.
