In these times of pandemic, it has been demonstrated that public services, together with social and individual responsibility, are essential for the population to move forward.
Among these public services is Education, one of the most fundamental rights to achieve social equality, and for this reason we are concerned about the stability of the staff, the retirement in the coming years of 50% of the staff, the provision of sufficient staff to educational centers, or the improvement of the working conditions of Infant and Primary teachers.
In the appearance requested by Si Podemos Canarias last week in Parliament, the Minister of Education announced the revision of the current catalog of staff of the centers and that the teachers hired until December by COVID, will return in January to the same classrooms, giving continuity to their work, adding that she had within the plans of the Ministry the negotiation of a new catalog of staff.
In these times of uncertainty, it is essential to achieve the essential stability of the teaching staff, developing stability plans for the interim teaching staff, of public employment offer with a differentiated character, some places and some requirements for those who are already occupying a position in education and others different for those who aspire to a job in public education.
Without forgetting that it is necessary to address in the future Education Law a new conception of the initial and permanent training of teachers and their access to public service.
These high rates of teachers with precarious contracts are inadmissible.
Regarding the aging of the staff, it is necessary to plan complementary training actions for those who aspire to work in education if we want to profoundly modify the current educational system, so the effort carried out with the hiring of 2,500 teachers is remarkable, who should continue to be hired and that in the future the reduction of ratios that is most needed is in the first years of education, where the best socially considered teachers should be, the best, to contribute to laying the foundations for the future school success of all students.
Emphasis should also be placed on the fact that the staff of the centers must be completed with professionals in guidance, speech therapy, social educators, nursing, administration and services staff, school cafeteria workers.
Finally, we must not forget the need to support and maintain the continuity of rural schools in the Canary Islands, to favor the settlement of the population and contribute to the development of the primary sector, among others, with the aim of supporting the necessary diversification of the economy in the Canary Islands.
