The coherence of Ástrid Pérez and Joel Delgado, put to the test

March 1 2018 (08:11 WET)

I was in total agreement with the president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote when she demanded the resignation of the president of the Island Council for being "a danger to the present and future of Lanzarote".

It was the month of October 2012 and ASOLAN sent a letter to Pedro San Ginés in which it described the president's statements made in the Plenary Session of the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) in Washington on September 26 as "totally unfortunate and regrettable", accusing him of tarnishing "the name of our island".

Ástrid Pérez then aligned herself with ASOLAN's deep concern that the "Messiah anointed with the truth" had sown unjustifiable doubts about the safety of Lanzarote as a tourist destination. The island president of the PP aligned herself so much with ASOLAN that she not only made the businessmen's reproaches her own to the "delusions of grandeur" for "playing with the island's economy", but also publicly called for his resignation. What good times those when Ástrid fearlessly denounced Pedro's "dictatorial ways" and lamented that the president safeguarded "his seat and the interests of his Party"! What good times those when Astrid demanded the resignation of whoever tarnished the image of Lanzarote, even without being charged! By the way, almost five and a half years have passed since then and now the president of the Cabildo is indeed criminally charged. It stinks to have gone from demanding the resignation of someone who harmed the prestige of Lanzarote, without being charged, to giving him oxygen while being charged. As that minister said, IT TAKES BALLS!

To give wax, well deserved, to the president of the Cabildo and the island president of the PP in this opinion article is a collateral issue that serves me to enter the matter that really interests. One of the scourges of the PP and the reason for its evident electoral wear is the way in which it has managed the petty theft of some of its members, let's say, corruption. Recently, PODEMOS's complaint against Senator Joel Delgado for "irregular collections" has been made public.

Last September, the Senator for Lanzarote of the PP, Joel Delgado, stated: "If a gentleman who is charged leads the Cabildo, we will have to look for formulas to change that situation." When uttering the lapidary and accurate phrase, the Senator did not think that very soon the formula that the PP of Lanzarote was going to look for was to support the accused with the entry of the three pawns to the Government; nor did he imagine that he himself would be denounced. When you spit upwards, you run the risk of the sputum falling on your face.

The crux of the matter can be summarized in a question: what will both the president of the PP of Lanzarote and the Senator himself do if the complaint filed by PODEMOS results in his indictment?

Since I am sure that neither one nor the other is going to answer my question, I proceed to do it myself: THE MOMENT THE SENATOR IS CHARGED, ASTRID PÉREZ HAS TO DEMAND HIS RESIGNATION AND ON THE SAME DAY, JOEL DELGADO HAS TO SUBMIT IT.

No one will understand that the island president of the PP has demanded the resignation of the president of the Cabildo, without being charged, for harming the image of Lanzarote; support him with the entry of the PP in the government, being charged; and not demand the resignation of Senator Joel Delgado, also being charged and greatly harming the image of Lanzarote and the Popular Party. Nor will the conejeros understand that Joel Delgado refuses to submit his resignation for being charged when in September he spoke of the resignation of Pedro San Ginés, for being so.

But everything can be expected from some Organic and Public Charges of the PP of Lanzarote, I mean everything grotesque.
