The calculator in a funny way

September 19 2023 (12:15 WEST)

Summer ends and it's time to return to real life, working every day, with the rush and urgency of dropping the children off at school, activities, food and, as if that were not enough, trying to figure out if someone is capable of governing this holy country. With the purpose of being the most organized, returning to play sports and being an elite worker, the same day that you go “to the Port” to buy the scarf that you need for Los Dolores, you buy the most beautiful agenda that there is in the Fajardo bookstore.

One thing or another, summer is enjoyed, and with the personality that characterizes me, I have only laughed a little at almost everything, especially enjoying every minute soaking in the salt water of the paradise of the Canary Islands. But hey, when Suso closes the Mancha Blanca square and we are going to return to the routine, local politics awakens with one of the most propagandistic topics that exist on the Island. It is that we, the people of La Graciosa, are more handled for the political press releases of Lanzarote than a sugared almond on January 8.

It does not occur to the PSOE to say that in La Graciosa there must be a PRUG that regulates the load capacity in the eighth of the Canary Islands and that a fee is charged for visitors who want to access it. Those of the rose, I think, were invaded by the spirit of Christopher Columbus and thought that with such elaborate statements they were discovering America. Obviously, La Graciosa has to go through a regulation, that is not new, the same regulation that we needed 6 months ago and they were not heard saying anything.

The truth is that the defenders of our mythical tourist, Pedro Sánchez, arrived in September without an agenda and without preparing for the recovery. That is why I am going to leave you a summary of the reality of La Graciosa to clarify what happens on the island that is a little further than the municipality of Haría.

Look, in 1986 the creation of the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park was approved without considering that there was already a settled population here. In 2005 a PRUG was approved that was judicially overturned in 2017, leaving us without regulations, and it is in 2022 before the elections when a PORN is approved without even a neighborhood meeting and without counting on the work that a group of neighbors drafted for years that collected all the needs of this town.

But look, the story of the PRUG and the PORN bores the people of La Graciosa even though we need it like water in May. Because it has been many years talking about the same thing, hiding behind the same thing; They still do not realize that in order to solve the problems of the island of La Graciosa, short, medium and long-term measures are needed.

It is not acceptable that a grandmother has to wait 4 months for a permit from the Government of the Canary Islands and 7 months from the Cabildo to change the roofs of her house, for not having the environmental body approved and that they even tell her that by cleaning up her house she is going to kill little birds. We, the people of La Graciosa, pay taxes, it is not normal that we have been waiting four years for the sanitation project and that after investing millions of euros we do not even have a truck to empty the black wells without affecting the environment. The reality is that they still do not give us land to have a funeral home and say goodbye to our loved ones as they deserve.

It is not fair that the people of La Graciosa have to enter a raffle to be able to fish recreationally, while others have a small preserve in our waters. Just as it is not fair that they charge us for being able to plant and an 80-year-old man is hanging from a cistern because there is no water. That land is not given to make new stables so that livestock farming returns to the Island.

It is also not fair that we do not have a pediatrician even once a week and that older people have to go to Arrecife to receive rehabilitation, or have to pray to be able to bathe every day. All those things and many more are the first needs of this little piece of land that is only worth filling their mouths every so often and appearing in the press, but that's enough, we contribute a lot of money to Puertos Canarios, RTVC and the Canarian Police and we continue to limit ourselves to having only one local police officer.

In addition to the claims, I would like the Socialist Party to clarify why, if they are so concerned about what is happening in La Graciosa, they voted against an amendment to the PGE to subsidize the transport of goods to this Island, making us have the most expensive shopping basket in the Canary Islands and the only island that is not subsidized; that the Economic and Fiscal Regime is worth little to some. They could also say why an amendment to the Budget Law of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands that intended to subsidize boat tickets to residents of this Island did not go ahead, or is it fair that a person who needs the boat to work, to go to the dentist or renew their ID has to pay the same as someone from Tenerife who comes on vacation?

Gentlemen, it is good to try to find solutions to the problems of an island with the idiosyncrasy that La Graciosa has, but do not try to make fun of us that the problems we have today we have had for the last four years and they did nothing about it. In addition, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, as a member of the Council of La Cidudanía of La Graciosa, could have requested to be convened to talk about all this and it was not done.

In short, in addition to the agenda, you will have to buy a calculator to see in a funny way how much money is going to be allocated from that famous fee to La Graciosa, because what I hope they do not intend is that the fee they charge for coming to La Graciosa stays in Lanzarote.
