The Government/misgovernment of the Canary Islands has granted licenses to start mines in search of rare earths in three areas of Fuerteventura. The brutality of this project on an ISLAND-PARADISE is bestial. We are so close and so far at the same time, the capital islands and the eastern islands. How is it possible that this is proposed in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, that a professor goes and tells his story and a few politicians applaud him and believe that they will go down in the history of the Canary Islands with this nonsense?
But this is not the only thing that they are approving from the Government of the Canary Islands with a total ignorance of the reality, of the economy, of the health of the people in the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. And of course with zero notion of what a PARADISE is, and a paradise that lives and depends entirely on tourism. In these rare times and days also in which tourism is separated from the environment, in which projects are approved in the name of the environment without counting on the environment, these rare and turbulent days in which it is not appreciated how tourism in the Canary Islands depends entirely on the conservation of the coastline and the environment, that those are the photos that are taken to Fitur. Well, in these days, a day like today the permits for extraction and mining to look for some valuable minerals for a few will be debated in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, which a company will exploit, and that is what they call progress. Maybe that company also has hotels in Fuerteventura and does not see that the PARADISE has to be maintained, because tourism comes to see the PARADISE, a concept that is not appreciated in the capital islands when planning and projecting various issues, because they are already massified and urbanized, but Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are ISLANDS -PARADISE. What taste and sensitivity does a person have who signs a mining and extraction project like that in those places, next to Tindaya, near El Cotillo, in the south of Fuerteventura?
We are still these two eastern islands defending ourselves from the Energy Transition Plan that approved to put almost 200 windmills in Lanzarote until 2030 and another 300 from 2030 to 2040. And they come out presuming the great decarbonization of the Canary Islands, in record time, well in record time will be the meteorite of renewables, the devastating tsunami that they approved in the Parliament/chatterboxes of the Canary Islands, if I say well, in the Parliament of the Canary Islands for these islands. Where were the politicians of Lanzarote at that moment to protest against such an outrage? It is not known. No press release was seen from the politicians of Lanzarote, calling the people of Lanzarote to rebellion, to defend our island from forced expropriations to give our land to energy companies, to fill the island with windmills around Timanfaya, Famara, through all the villages, next to our houses. How can something like that be taken for granted? Perhaps because it seems modern, fashionable, almost that they were going to destroy our lives before the climate collapse.
And it is that every pore of the skin of Lanzarote is ours, and every pore of the skin of Fuerteventura is of the majoreros, and not of companies and their cronies of the larger islands that are sharing the loot of the territory of the eastern islands, and they come out telling their exploits and presuming of them in Las Canteras and in Santa Cruz. How dare they? How do we let them cross these limits of sanity of territory management?
In the demonstration of 20A I saw an old lady with a sign that said MAJOREROS WAKE UP, and I also say CONEJEROS WAKE UP, that we have to go to the trenches, every day to be aware to take care and protect our health, our quality of life, our jobs, our businesses, not of foreign multinationals no, of the very Government-misgovernment of the Canary Islands that is in babia, selling the Canary Islands to pieces, in parts, in lots.
