My greeting to the Fiestas de Los Remedios

September 1 2022 (10:38 WEST)

Yaiza, beloved town, thank you, infinite thanks for making me your son. There are not enough words to express my love for you, I grew up and learned in your streets, every sunrise of my life has been a gift; and how can it not be a gift to wake up and see Timanfaya nearby and walk through the corridor of your resplendent houses, as the faces of my beautiful, hardworking and humble people shine, who also illuminate my memory of family, neighbors who left leaving their indelible mark.

Friend Jaime Quesada, teacher and poet of land, sea and lava, I borrow your lyrics from 'A song to Yaiza' to say to my land: "take Yaiza my song, you who saw me born, I want to call you mother in it even if you are not a woman". I am thrilled to hear these verses translated into music by the talent of Regla Santana and the arrangements of Clotildo Martín.

As a child, we strung flags in the Plaza to decorate the town for the Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios. I also remember as a child collecting the tacks in a little pot when they dismantled the stage to reuse them, true to the carpenter's soul that I carry inside.

More than three decades have passed, but it is impossible to forget that happy, supportive and exciting space that filled us with life, as my time at the Yaiza school and the teachings of the teacher Inmaculadita González until 5th grade of EGB filled my life, and then the learning with Juana González, Juanita la del Correo as we affectionately know her, my performance as an altar boy with the priest Don Mario, with whom we even gave computer classes in the parish hall, the farming tasks with my parents in the area of La Caldereta, in the Valley of Fenauso, where we went to plant and kill weeds, the games in the Yaiza soccer field when it was pure dirt, my performances in the play back of Yaiza and in the

theater of the living nativity scene, and in a more recent era, my participation in the Entre Amigos de Yaiza theater group and in the dance corps of the Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón.

We live in other times, of course, and of less hardship, fortunately, and rather because of the sacrifice of previous generations, and my Yaiza remains immaculate and resplendent with families of a lifetime and new people who have found in this region the peace sought, in the broad sense of the word, a relationship of harmony between people and a haven of tranquility.

The parranda sounds!, The romería advances possessed of happiness!, The vivas to the Virgen de Los Remedios are heard in procession!, The tradition fills the Plaza animated by the folklore!. Neighbors, it is the Fiestas de Remedios, the celebrations of our town for the enjoyment of all, those from here and those who visit us, this is the spirit of my beloved Yaiza, cheerful and supportive, this is how they taught us from a young age and we do not know what it is to betray our historical feeling.
