It has been 26 long years of waiting, with the damage it entails to the neediest families, who have been victims of the political apathy that the archipelago has experienced for more than two decades. The Governing Council, chaired by the socialist, Ángel Víctor Torres, yesterday approved an expenditure of 2.8 million euros to put out to tender the drafting of the projects for ten developments, three in Arrecife, of protected housing, which are included within the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025.
It gives me enormous satisfaction to know that the Canary Islands Housing Institute will build more than 200 new protected homes in the Maneje neighborhood, the first in 26 years. I also feel enormous impotence knowing that those who shout to the heavens to defend the interests of the Canarians as much as anyone else have not been the least bit concerned about a basic necessity such as access to housing.
From the socialist group we want to reaffirm our commitment to guarantee this right to the neediest families. And it is in this direction that all groups must work, because we have a very large debt pending with the neighbors and there is no better way to pay it off than to start working for the common good, leaving aside partisan interests.
The works are scheduled to begin at the end of this year, or the beginning of 2022. They will be increased over the next few years because we know very well that they are not enough. It has been 26 years without investments failing the trust that the citizens placed in the different autonomous governments. Today we have returned some justice to those families, even if it is only a small part.
