When you decide to resume life as a political manager, conviction commands, which in my case is nothing more than the faithful belief that people can and should improve reality from the perspective and with the means available. That is and will be my creed.
I firmly believe in people, and in the possibility of change, which is why from a young age I was clear about my vocation. First immersed in the youth and associative fabric because we were eager to change our reality, until forging my true vocation, which is nothing more than being a gear of help in personal change processes.
That is why I believe in people, and in the need and possibility of changing the present and the future.
That is why I returned to public management, I return to continue betting on change and on the imperative need to return to all social agents, entities and associations the place they should never have lost because they are undoubtedly the true agents promoting change.
If I close my eyes, I can still remember that group of mothers and some fathers who took to the streets looking for a place to care for their sons and daughters when addictions were still an uncomfortable issue that no one wanted to address and heroin was destroying almost an entire generation. Thanks to those mothers and fathers who occupied our streets, today our island has an Addiction Care Network that allows the possibility to exist.
I remember Doña Nena, a woman of tireless spirit who has given me the greatest life lessons, a pioneer and revolutionary in the fight against addictions, with AFACODA and hand in hand with one of the leading figures in the defense of the rights of the most vulnerable people, always in my memory Lolina Curbelo.
Derecho y Justicia, with a generational seed through the eyes of Tharais, who enters the Tahiche Penitentiary Center, so that reintegration is a fact and not a wish.
Calor y Café, synonymous with home for those who do not have it, volunteers of heart, of dedication, of generosity, of clean looks... Eternally grateful to Sor Ana, Benigna Trujillo and all the people and volunteers who continue there day after day without rest looking for answers for those who cannot find them.
The birth in 1992 of the Mental Health Association "El Cribo", "Adislan", an associative movement that defends the rights of people with disabilities, "AFA Lanzarote", which tirelessly seeks answers to the treatment, care of Alzheimer's and other dementias and rest and respite for their families, is also part of our history.
Asociación Mararía, a benchmark in the defense of gender violence on the island of Lanzarote, the Asociación "Acompañar", always hand in hand with Sergio García, his dedication and healing silence, Asociación Tinguafaya, which makes visible the need for leisure for people with disabilities, Asociación AFOL, shelter and support for onco-hematological patients, and so many others such as APSAL, Asociación Creciendo Yaiza, Asociación Esclerosis Múltiple, Médicos de Mundo, Cruz Roja, TRIB-ARTE, ALANEM, ASPERCAN, ATDHAILANZ, Asoc. Pequeño Valiente, APSAL, Asociación Soculturas "La vida de Zuaina", Asociación de mayores "La Destila", Asomavo...and many others that I do not remember now but that I do not forget, and I hope they will forgive me. !!!THANK YOU!!! Thank you for being part of the change, for sharing the same common goal, which is to face situations of inequality and social exclusion.
I choose to continue hand in hand, sharing the same dream, always moving in the same direction, never forgetting to set ourselves challenges, add desires, and face reality as what we are...the administrations from our duty to ensure the well-being of citizens and you reaching everything that we cannot reach.
I choose to silence the siren songs that babble that we are trying to shirk our responsibilities, that spit that the facts are only a declaration of intentions, that tortuously think that working hand in hand with the Third Sector we are trying to mislead the citizens..., I choose not to look at a past that scares me that it will happen again and I choose again to look to the future, never alone, always with you because actions speak louder than words.
I will always be in debt to you, the associative fabric.
With this opinion article, this Monday, October 9, National Third Sector Day, I want to pay my small tribute to all those volunteers and professionals who collaborate to make our world a better place.
