They say paper can handle anything. I am surprised by the ease with which some political formations launch unfounded claims and slanders, trusting that their words may have some impact on public opinion, perhaps with the aim of scraping votes, closing alliances or perhaps just to ignite, or set fire to, the media landscape.
Perhaps they are not counting on the fact that our people are not so easily gullible, nor that the right of reply may once again make them look ridiculous. That someone outside of Coalición Canaria tries to explain and belittle our political project from the most intentional ignorance, is something that I cannot and should not ignore.
This formation was born at the end of 1992 and, in the case of Conejero, has been assuming stable government responsibilities since 2009, with a renewed project that combines youth and experience.
That they now try to put us in the bag of traditional parties, both those that belong to older organizations and others newly arrived and whose inexperience and lack of knowledge is remarkable, is unforgivable.
I am convinced that in politics one must be coherent and responsible with the words that are poured out, and in these days of media collapse and speakers of left-wing rhetoric and right-wing praxis, there are statements that due to their positioning are completely removed from reality.
The nationalist political project in which I believe and in which I am currently immersed, also occupying responsibilities at the head of the Nationalist Youth of the Canary Islands, is of a progressive nature. Yes, progressive, that word that lately has lost part of its meaning and importance and that is clumsily hackneyed.
But as in reality the paper does not hold everything, let's refer to the facts, to those tangible issues that support our roadmap and our political ideology, which is located in the nationalist, federalist and progressive field.
Let's observe the changes that the Conejera society has experienced in the last decade, in which it is already considered the stage of greatest progress that the island has experienced, in which not only has it opted for the maintenance of public services, but in which it has promoted an action plan that has meant enormous progress in various matters. I am referring to the sustainability and sanitation of public companies, aid and scholarships to our students and athletes, support for non-profit organizations, socio-health infrastructure plans, which among other things led to the launch of the "Low Threshold Methadone" program. Also the disability residence, the new day center for El Cribo, the mental health residence, the Alzheimer's residence, the new day center for the elderly in La Graciosa, the Lanzarote 2020 strategy, the change of energy model with 25% of the energy of the integral water cycle with renewable energies and that at the end of this legislature will mean that 40% of the island's demand will be supplied by green and also public energy.
Are these projects of regression, immobilism, conservatives? Or are they projects of progress, advancement and growth?
The desire for power should not justify these value judgments that have been freely issued. Let's call things by their name. We are committed to continuing in this line of progressive work in which we have embarked, managing our project with foresight, with the aim of continuing to promote more progress on the island and to continue promoting sustainable growth, so that Lanzarote continues to adapt to the new environmental, health, social and economic scenarios. A political project that has positioned this land as a benchmark, not only in the Canary Islands, but in Europe.
