We are experiencing an unprecedented political situation. A coalition government, formed by two progressive options, one of which is a sum of parties in which desertions have already occurred. It is supported by a miscellany of forces integrated by progressive nationalists, radical left and even two nationalist rights. It seems that, for the formation of this tailor's trunk, the fear of a conservative government was decisive. It is not clear that there is a backbone project.
A conservative nationalist party, which integrates this amalgam, seems to have as its main priority to evade its judicial responsibilities. The progressivism of this government, with the support of two conservative forces, is in question. Few critical voices are heard on the left.
The most moderate part, the social democrats, know how complicated it is to govern in coalition and without a parliamentary majority. They say they have red lines in their relationship with the nationalists, but they skip them shortly after announcing them. The continuous concessions (the figure of the Rapporteur seems like a joke), the bilaterality granted to Catalonia, assuming the false nationalist account of what happened in 2017 or an amnesty law that is at least doubtful, which perhaps violates equality between Spaniards; They do not seem like progressive measures, but rather sound like surrenders to stay in the government.
The radical left functions almost like a university assembly, they are only kept united by power and, at the same time, when they do not like a decision, they play at being the opposition. Some have been formed by splitting from the others, which causes rivalries and grudges, which hinder government action. If you disagree, they expel you.
The nationalist left must clarify which of the two attributes is a priority, the one that concerns the territory or the progressive one. The competition with its right-wing counterpart, to see who is more nationalist and gets more things from the government, or the chimera of an independence that they have never had, is out of place. Unity and synergy prevail in the 21st century. They must go further, mature and grow up.
Power at all costs will hardly give good results. Given the evolution of events, perhaps it would have been better to repeat elections with a prior governability pact between the two majority options.
In Europe they must be hallucinating. We have gone from requesting the extradition of MEPs fleeing from justice, to requesting the inclusion of regional languages (Catalan, Galician, Basque) in the European Parliament, with Spain bearing all the expenses.
Be careful with the content of the laws that are approved, I do not think that European authorities will swallow with amnesty for crimes of embezzlement of public funds or terrorism.
There is a conservative trend worldwide. Faced with it, the left must demonstrate that it has future solutions to problems such as immigration, climate change, depopulation or measures so that artificial intelligence is at the service of people and not capital. Everything happens through proposals, dialogue and agreements.
