The Cabildo of Lanzarote has awarded the contract for the improvement works on the drinking water distribution network in the area between Montaña Mina and Mozaga. This action is intended to modernize and reinforce the hydraulic system of the so-called Central Line.
The project, financed 80% by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) and 20% by the Cabildo, will involve a total investment of 5,291,075.84 euros, distributed in two lots corresponding to the municipalities of Teguise and San Bartolomé.
Advance of the Northern Line
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has pointed out that with the execution of the Northern Line "we continue to advance in the improvement of the island's supply infrastructures, increasing the efficiency, reliability and capacity of the drinking water network in strategic areas of the island."
"We are committed to reducing losses, optimizing hydraulic performance, and strengthening service to households, farms, and local businesses."
The Councilor for Planning and Project Coordination of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, has stated for her part that "hydraulic investment is a priority objective for this island government when it comes to channeling the economic items of the Canary Islands Development Fund. This strategic work for the improvement of the integral water cycle is part of the investment plan that we have launched with the FDCAN funds."
A Work in Two Lots The proposed award, approved at the Island Government Council meeting held on Monday morning, divides the works into two lots. The first, framed in the municipality of Teguise, has been awarded to the joint venture Hormiconsa Canarias, SA – Inesco SA, for an amount of 1,358,298.19 euros and an execution period of nine months; while in the second, the UTE Hormigones Insulares SL. – Lanzagrava SL – Transportes y Excavaciones Tiagua S.L. will be in charge of the section located in the municipality of San Bartolomé, with an amount of 3,932,777.65 euros and an execution period of 18 months.
"It is a very ambitious project that, together with the North Line, will improve the island's network of Lanzarote and will mark a before and after in the supply situation on the island. This is a new branch that will start from the Montaña Mina reservoir and end at the connection of the Tinajo-Tao-Famara branches, being executed in different phases through the municipalities of Teguise and San Bartolomé," said the Minister of Water of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas.
