Volconsa workers will strike every Friday until the Arrecife City Council makes a decision and "awards or seizes" the service. The 18 employees already undertook a day of protest on the 13th, after the Council neither rescued this service, nor called another tender for its award.
Cándido García, delegate of Intersindical Canaria, explained to La Voz that the workers will not go to work on Fridays, until the City Council provides a solution to this situation. In addition, on strike days, they will protest in front of the City Council between 10:00 and 13:00.
On the 13th, when they called the last day of strike, "the City Council contacted the bankruptcy administrators" of Volconsa to try to get this company to "continue with the service, to extend the contract". However, the workers do not know if this will finally happen. "We don't know anything", says García.
No "communication" from the Department of Sports
Therefore, he asks the City Council to "find a solution" to award this service, fearing that 18 people will end up without a job. García also complains that "there is no communication from the Department of Sports or the mayor. We don't know what they are doing and we are worried", he laments.
This strike will affect the six socio-cultural centers of Arrecife, the four football fields, the civic center and exhibition hall of El Charco de San Ginés, which will have their doors "closed". Faced with this fact, the Football Delegation has had to change several matches, which were affected by the strike, such as two from the Arrecife City Council regional cup and another from the Lanzarote Island Council youth cup.
Specifically, the match between Club Deportivo Tite and Club Deportivo Tahíche will finally be played on Thursday, instead of Friday, in Argana, while the match between Club Deportivo Arrecife and Altavista will also be played on Thursday in Altavista. The other modified match is the one between Altavista and Orientación Marítima B, which will be played on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Altavista.
