The committee of United for Lanzarote in Teguise has resumed its activity and has done so to criticize the management of the mayor of the municipality, Oswaldo Betancort, whom it has accused of having "facilitated" the robbery recorded in the Pirate Museum.

In a statement, the formation points out that it is "a shame that Oswaldo Betancort's abandonment means that he cannot resist the attack of the pirates." "Dozens of years of history thrown in the trash by this mayor fleeing from his municipality", they point out from Unidos por Lanzarote, from where they criticize Betancort's "insistence" "on being the star parliamentarian, something they believe he "does not achieve even remotely", also being "a real disappointment for the island of Lanzarote."

"His shameful actions have caused him to completely abandon his municipality, the one he said he loved so much," he adds.

The party recalls that the Castle of Santa Bárbara, a fortress that houses the Pirate Museum, closed temporarily in January 2020, before the start of its rehabilitation, whose works had an estimated period of 8 months. However, they point out that "after doubling the completion period of the works, not only are they not finished, but it has just suffered the biggest robbery in history facilitated by this non-existent mayor."

"Why wasn't the alarm connected? Where are the keys? Why don't they know the museum's inventory? Why did they access it so easily? Where is the City Council's control of these works? Why so much disinterest?" the formation asks.

"They are causing irreparable damage to the municipality"

The committee of Unidos por Lanzarote in Teguise affirms that it has been "forced to resume activity in the face of so much neglect/destruction of Teguise and the disappearance of the historical heritage of the municipality by the disastrous Oswaldo Betancort and his team, if it exists."

"They are causing irreparable damage to a historical municipality, an issue that cannot be allowed. The robbery that occurred in the Pirate Museum, with the mayor as the person ultimately responsible for it, is the straw that breaks the camel's back of the regrettable situation to which they are subjecting us. Therefore, it is our obligation to denounce the multiple disasters caused by this regrettable government, with Oswaldo Betancort at the head," they point out.

In addition, Unidos por Lanzarote believes that Teguise is "the municipality with the worst tourism management of the Covid crisis, an issue that they have used as a perfect excuse to do absolutely nothing, with all their multiple lying promises totally paralyzed or non-existent."

In this regard, they indicate that "in the coming days" they will list "each and every one of them", while showing "a totally different way of managing a municipality and a totally manageable crisis."

Finally, the committee of Unidos por Lanzarote in Teguise wants to convey to the residents "a message of hope and encouragement in the face of this situation": "A team of renewed and united people with the sole interest in Teguise and the prosperity of the municipality will take the reins of it before a mayor and his team, if it exists, worn out, and what is worse, disinterested and neglected. Teguise is above these disasters, so let's move forward," they conclude.
