The Cabildo. This is the only person responsible that the mayor of Haría, José Torres Stinga, finds to justify the delays of works as important as the Órzola dock or the nursing home, a question that for him is absolutely clear and responds to the criticisms that political groups have made to him, who in his opinion should look further down the valley of the ten thousand palm trees to find those who have put the obstacles.
The mayor of Haría rejected this Monday each and every one of the numerous criticisms he has been receiving in recent months from the opposition, beginning with the one that has to do with the works of the nursing home.
On this issue, he said during his intervention in the program Buenos Días de Radio Lanzarote that "when the necessary information is lacking, this type of slip-ups are committed." Thus, he explained that within the Socio-sanitary Plan that was approved by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2003, the construction of the Tías and Haría residence was transferred to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and not to the northern City Council. At that time, the Cabildo changed the contracting model to carry it out through an amortization, so that for 25 years the company will charge for the construction. The model that the socialist Juan Félix Eugenio had planned in his stage as counselor was paralyzed in December 2003 under the presidency of Dimas Martín, which caused a delay of six or seven months. Being president Francisco Cabrera, the mayor recalled, "the award of the work was signed in March or April." "The construction period is eighteen months, so I don't see where the controversy is," he concluded.
Regarding the controversial work of the Órzola dock, Torres Stinga continued the same line and stated that "those responsible for the fact that this is paralyzed has to do with the Heritage report that was carried out when the PSOE and the PIL governed in the Cabildo", a report in which the existence of an underwater archaeological site was warned. "As a consequence of this, they have put some conditions on us that make the construction of the dock practically unfeasible in the conditions in which it was," he remarked, advancing that at this moment the corresponding modifications are taking place to try to get the matter forward. Thus, he advanced that this Thursday there will be a meeting between the technicians who have to carry out the project.
As an example of something similar to what happens with the Órzola dock, he put the case of the artificial underwater reefs that they placed not too long ago, since in the first estimations that they were making of their development they have found that some "scoundrels" have broken some of the cables in which they were held and some of the reefs. "They are boats that come and fish in the vicinity of the area, drop anchor and when they take it out it gets stuck and drag with what they catch, which has done significant damage," he commented, announcing that he was going to try to hold a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Fisheries of the Canarian Executive and with the Cabildo to see how the area can be saved. "It's a shame, because an important regeneration is taking place," he insisted.
Issue of the children's nursery
Responding to the concern of some residents, the northern mayor explained that the children's nursery has had authorization since last Friday at noon, which has motivated that since yesterday at nine in the morning the registration could be started for the start-up of a center that could start running on Monday or Tuesday of next week. "We have been doing the paperwork for eight months, among other things because the Ministry of Health demanded some requirements that Heritage did not authorize, a terrible problem about the place where it was located", he insisted. "There were some security requirements, which was like demanding that in the Los Jameos auditorium there be more security than the environment itself allows," he finally commented.
