The youth of the Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote and the Local Committee of the party in Arrecife have joined the criticism against the prospecting project and against the attitude of the Minister of Industry, José Manuel Soria. However, while the young nationalists of Arrecife say a resounding "No", the Local Committee calls for dialogue between institutions before authorizing oil exploration.
The Local Committee of the Canarian Coalition in Arrecife believes that the 10-day period granted by the Ministry of Industry for the presentation of allegations to the project is "excessively short" and asks that the processing of the file be suspended until a "three-way" dialogue is opened between the central and regional executives and the affected councils. "We will be inflexible in demanding that the necessary environmental requirements be met before granting any authorization."
The nationalists believe "that we have the right to know the pros and cons of oil extraction on our coasts, mainly the environmental ones and their impact on the tourism industry of the archipelago". After having this information, CC adds, "we, the Canarians, will have to decide whether we want to exploit these resources or not."
The Local Committee of Arrecife regrets that the Ministry of Industry is carrying out this entire process in a "dark" way, as it has not revealed under what technical conditions it intends to authorize the aforementioned prospecting, "something to which all Canarians are entitled."
Why in the Canary Islands?
On the other hand, the nationalists find it "outrageous" that the only Canarian minister in President Rajoy's cabinet intends to force his Autonomous Community "to suffer the consequences of a measure that he is trying to avoid in the Valencian Community, forming a solid articulation in defense of the environment, to avoid these explorations", as recognized by the mayor of Valencia, Rita Barberá, who explained that "Minister Soria has informed her that he will not authorize oil exploration on the Valencian coasts, given the negative consequences that these explorations may have on Valencian tourism and the ecosystem of the area."
"From the Local Committee of CC in Arrecife we wonder if this is what the Popular Party (PP) was referring to when it asked for the vote to safeguard the interests of the Canary Islands in Madrid," they conclude in a statement.
The youth show their rejection
Meanwhile, the young nationalists are clear and believe that the implementation of these platforms "will not generate any benefit for the Canary Islands" and, in addition, they point out that "the safety of spills to our coasts is not guaranteed." "Our human consumption may be affected by the lack of security measures, as well as our main current source of income, such as tourism", they warn.
From the nationalist youth they are committed to renewable energies, which "are a source of energy for the present and the future." Therefore, they add, "we say No to the cut in renewable energies, just as we say No to oil exploration. Because we, like the rest of the Canarians, can say that we are Canarians and dream of our land."
