The Cabildo of Lanzarote reports on the progress of the transformation works of Plaza Las Palmas, located in the center of Arrecife in front of the church of San Ginés.

The president of the Corporation, Oswaldo Betancort, and the island's vice president and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area, María Jesús Tovar, verified the good progress of the works. The deputy mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, and the Councilor for Heritage, Maciot Cabrera, also attended the visit.

“Plaza Las Palmas is a fundamental enclave for the capital of the island, a space that will recover its charm thanks to the inter-administrative cooperation between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council”, said the president, who also highlighted the great progress in which the intervention is found.

The vice president and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, said for her part that this work “is a historical demand of the residents of the capital”, “Through the Next Generation funds, with an investment of close to 835,000 euros, we have promoted this important work that will transform an enclave of Arrecife”, she pointed out.

It should be remembered that the works include the repair of planters, pavements, flooring and furniture, among others. The structure of the cistern will also be reinforced, preserving the dimensions, materials and aesthetics, in order to give it visibility and improve accessibility. In addition, the existing vegetation will be protected and the planting will be increased.

In addition, it should also be remembered that the project contemplates the pedestrianization of Otilia Díaz street and a reorganization of traffic to improve the space surrounding the Plaza, providing it with shaded areas.
