The Tourism Council of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Tourism Infrastructure, has started this Friday, December 26, the access works to the Ermita de Los Dolores, in the municipality of Tinajo.
The Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Rita Martín, highlighted in a statement that this action is included in the Infrastructure and Tourism Quality Plan of Lanzarote, with an investment amounting to 1,420,660 euros. "The access works to the Ermita de Los Dolores will allow the conditioning of the entrance road to one of the most emblematic architectural constructions of Lanzarote," said Rita Martín.
The execution period of the works, which will be 12 months, will make it possible in December 2009 to have a parking lot, curbs and sidewalks in the sections between the last house in Tinajo and the access to Los Dolores and the opposite side from the same starting point to the intersection with the Lz-56 road, in Mancha Blanca.
Two roundabouts will also be built on the Lz-67 road, one at the first intersection to Los Dolores and the other about 150 meters from the intersection, stone retaining walls on two sides and the total paving of the road.
The General Director of Tourism Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Ledesma, pointed out in the writing that "it must be taken into account that a large part of the interest and importance of this work lies in the fact that the Ermita de los Dolores is venerated to the patron saint of the Island and is part of an environment of great tourist interest due to its proximity to the Timanfaya National Park and the cultivation of La Geria".
The Tourism Council of the Government of the Canary Islands says that it is promoting this type of action that is included within the Infrastructure and Tourism Quality Plan of Lanzarote, for which a total budget of 31,324,758.88 euros has been allocated, in order to promote the tourist activities of the island and ensure adequate urban and service development of the different tourist enclaves, as well as the conditioning of the elements of the territory necessary to support the diversification of the offer.
Thus, the Tourism Council of the Government of the Canary Islands emphasizes that it contributes 50 percent of the investment planned in the Infrastructure and Tourism Quality Plan of Lanzarote, whose actions are aimed at achieving an increase in the quality of tourism services of the destination, the improvement of the urban and natural environment of the municipality, the expansion and improvement of public spaces, the improvement of public services, the increase, diversification and improvement of the complementary offer; the enhancement of tourist resources, the creation of new products or the awareness and implementation of the population and local agents in a culture of quality.
The execution of this work will contribute to fulfilling some of the objectives set in order to improve the tourist competitiveness and the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the municipality of Tinajo.
