The Tiagua-Tinajo road is now open to traffic, as confirmed to La Voz by the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo, Sergio Machín. Thus, from 1:45 p.m. this Friday, vehicles can circulate on the aforementioned road.
On the morning of this Tuesday, workers of the improvement works of the aforementioned road were finalizing the setting up of the road, carrying out, among other things, signaling tasks, such as painting the central line of the road.
In this way, after its completion, the road has been opened to traffic, thus complying with the date that the Councilor for Public Works conveyed to La Voz last week, when he assured that "with all certainty" vehicles could circulate on this road no later than the 20th.
However, Machín has explained that there are still some details left, such as conditioning the entrances to some farms. "This is done on the margins and does not affect the road," explained the councilor.
Nine months later
The earthworks on the Tinajo road began in October 2011, although, six months earlier, in April, the then Councilor for Public Works, Fabián Martín, already announced the start of the works. The works belong to the I Road Plan that, started in 2005, ends with these actions.
The work was awarded for a total of 1,890,000 euros, but the introduction of a supplementary one increased that figure to 2.5 million euros, according to the Department of Public Works of the Cabildo.
The works on the road were scheduled to be completed at the end of last March, but its opening has been delayed over time and it has not been until now, nine months later, when the works have concluded and the road has been opened to traffic.
Demands
In addition, the works have not been without controversy since their beginning and many residents have shown their disagreement with the works during their execution. Even, last week, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, stated that he was not entirely happy with the result of the works carried out and demanded that the Cabildo introduce an item in the next budgets to correct the existing deficiencies. Specifically, he demands the installation of two roundabouts and a service lane, since many companies and farms have been left without direct access. "With that, and with the asphalting of the small entrances to the farms, we would be happy. And also in the future the stone cladding of the jable slopes that are there," said the mayor, who insisted that he would accept opening the road like that, but would continue "demanding".
Even so, Machín acknowledged that with the improvements made, with the expansion of the lanes and shoulders, as well as the elimination of the changes in gradient, one of the "black spots of the island" has been eliminated.
