To mark the 40th anniversary of the Afilarmónica Las Revoltosas, the San Bartolomé Town Council has organised a series of commemorative events for the group. The streets of the municipality and the Municipal Theatre will be the venues for this tribute, which kicks off this Saturday, 12 March.

From 19.00 hours onwards, the events to pay tribute to Las Revoltosas will begin with the opening of an open-air exhibition in the Pasaje Doctor Cerdeña Bethencourt. Here, you will be able to learn about the trajectory of the Murga Afilarmónica Las Revoltosas over these decades, which all those interested can visit until 22 March.

At 20.00 hours, the act of recognition will begin in the Teatro de San Bartolomé, where those attending will be able to recall moments that are now history. "Las Revoltosas will feel the affection of their people with the odd surprise", says the Councillor for Festivities, Estefanía Luzardo. Admission to the act of recognition in the theatre is free, and those interested can pick up invitations at www.ecoentradas.com.

In the hall of the Theatre there will be an exhibition of carnival costumes that they have worn over the years, which can be visited from Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 14.00 hours. In addition, the Consistory reminds that a street will also bear their name in San Bartolomé.

The mayor, Isidro Pérez, invites you to participate in this event in which San Bartolomé pays tribute to Las Revoltosas. "They have made a revolution, they continue to make history and they are part of the struggle for female empowerment, becoming a true vindication of women in the face of the discriminatory patterns that predominated in the 80s in the celebration of carnival events", says the mayor.

"They are a great reference and a source of pride for the municipality of San Bartolomé, the Island and the Canary Islands, because they were brave, took to the streets and took a step forward, demonstrating that carnival was also a matter for women and have managed to maintain themselves for 4 decades", he added.
