The PSOE of Lanzarote has described as "incomprehensible" the change of position of the Canarian Coalition with the burying of the highway between Arrecife and the airport as it passes through Playa Honda. "Before, they opposed it because they said it was just the whim of a businessman, and today, however, they support it as if their lives depended on it," says Cristina Duque, a member of the Island Executive.
The socialists recall what Pedro San Ginés stated when he was president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote: "This businessman has been trying for several years to impose the burying in Playa Honda, which does not solve the current mobility problems in the area, but only benefits his businesses." However, "the Canarian Coalition has now enthusiastically joined the burying through its general secretary, Migdalia Machín," they add from the PSOE.
"The Government of the Canary Islands has not hesitated and has tendered for 1.6 million euros the drafting of the project for a new outer ring road to the north of the commercial and industrial area of Playa Honda. This is the most rational and appropriate alternative for the general interest and the tens of thousands of people who travel through that area every day," say the PSOE.
For Duque, "the project of the Government of the Canary Islands defines a new route that starts from the San Bartolomé road to the vicinity of Indelasa, but from a global and comprehensive conception of island mobility." "Precisely the same one that the Canarian Coalition defended with serenity, but with firmness, a few years ago," says Cristina Duque.
Finally, she explains that "this new variant would solve the current problems of congestion that occur at the entrance to Arrecife from San Bartolomé and would significantly improve access to the Dr. Molina Orosa General Hospital. In addition, it would evacuate the fast north-south traffic along the new road to the north of the commercial and industrial area of Playa Honda. And it would allow the current highway to be converted into a wide boulevard-type street with an urban feel, by pacifying traffic, and that would connect Playa Honda with the commercial and industrial area."
