The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote will formally request the secretary of the Water Consortium, the manager and the secretary of the Cabildo to immediately provide the documentation corresponding to the appeal presented by the company Canal Gestión, after the start of the contract termination procedure.

The initiative comes after the repeated refusal of the president of the Cabildo and the Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort, to hand over essential documentation to understand the real state of the procedure and allow a rigorous legal and technical evaluation.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, has been blunt: "We have been forced to resort to all institutional channels because we are not going to tolerate the continued violation of our right to access key information. This is not a private estate; we are talking about an essential public service such as water."

On May 12, the deadline for the municipalities of Tías and San Bartolomé, members of the Consortium, to receive a response to their formal request for access to the allegations of Canal Gestión expired. Since then, neither they nor the Socialist Group have received the documentation.

"The president has not only ignored the municipalities, but has also disregarded the rest of the members of the Consortium, hiding key documents for the future of the water cycle in Lanzarote. If there is nothing to hide, why doesn't he hand over the documentation?" González questioned.

For the PSOE of Lanzarote, "this attitude not only demonstrates a worrying lack of transparency, but also compromises the legality of the process and the ability of the members of the Consortium to exercise their responsibilities."

"You cannot move forward in a procedure of this magnitude by turning your back on the partners of the Consortium and denying essential information. We are not going to allow it," he stressed.
