The Canarian Socialist Party of Lanzarote has demanded that the councilor of Citizen Alternative in the Cabildo, Pedro Hernández, return to the Corporation "the amounts of money collected irregularly", while the island's Government Group has commissioned a technical report from its legal services to determine whether it is appropriate to raise this demand institutionally.

The Lanzarote socialists consider that after learning of the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, of [ which La Voz reported last Friday ->7016], which declares incompatible the exercise of Pedro Hernández's activity as a professor at the University School of Tourism with his position as a councilor, he should return that money "as soon as possible", in order to "avoid economic damage to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and, at the same time, try to prevent the idea from spreading among citizens that their political representatives are all the same and take advantage of their public positions for personal benefit".

"The public money belongs to the institution and, therefore, to the entire population", the socialists add, while pointing out that it would be "a real scandal" if Pedro Hernández did not return the aforementioned money, "and the rumor spread among citizens that certain people enjoy privileges by virtue of the public position they hold".

At the same time, they maintain that in the event that Pedro Hernández "shows some reluctance when it comes to returning the money collected in a 'weird' way, the PSC of Lanzarote appeals to the common sense and honesty of the militants of Citizen Alternative to demand it in an extraordinary and urgent assembly convened for this purpose", for which the socialists "recommend excluding from it the two or three representatives of the Taliban or ultraconservative sector of that political formation, easily recognizable because they dedicate every day of the year to insulting the media and those who do not think like them".

The PSC also makes a call "to the good people of Citizen Alternative, who are the vast majority, to close the doors to public life to individuals of these characteristics", and points out that Pedro Hernández has allied himself in the Cabildo with the party of Dimas Martín, also comparing both, by pointing out the "similarity in their political beginnings, both very linked to the onion", concluding that "it is to be hoped that their endings do not go down the same path".

Awaiting the report

For his part, the Councilor of Finance of the Cabildo, Luis Arráez, although he maintained that "on a personal level" he considers that it should not be asked of Pedro Hernández to return that money, because "we must end the confrontations between politicians", confirmed to this medium that the Government Group will act in relation to this issue according to what the legal services of the first island corporation indicate, through a report that has already been requested and is currently in the process of being prepared.

Meanwhile, Pedro Hernández will offer a press conference this Wednesday afternoon "to make known his assessment of the recent ruling of the TSJC", as stated in a call from Citizen Alternative. This appearance before the media will take place "in the house of Doña Carmen, mother of Pedro Hernández", in Tiagua.
