The island secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced that the budgets of the Autonomous Community punish Lanzarote with a drop in investments of more than 50 million euros, which represents a humiliation of Fernando Clavijo to Lanzarote, in the face of the complicit silence of Oswaldo Betancort.
Corujo made these statements, accompanied by the socialist regional parliamentarians, at the press conference held this morning to assess the budget of the Autonomous Community.
Lanzarote, the only island where investment decreases
"Lanzarote is the only island where investment decreases. While all the islands see investments increase, Lanzarote is the only one that experiences a decrease that is almost 12%, going from 119 million euros to 105 million," Corujo explained.
The socialist leader considered this discrimination with respect to the rest of the islands intolerable: «Oswaldo Betancort will have to explain what he has dedicated his trips as a parliamentarian to Tenerife to. If he had not found out about this intolerable discrimination or if, knowing it, he has tolerated it and I don't know which of the two alternatives is worse».
"This decrease in investments occurs, in addition, at a time when the regional budget grows by 1,121 million euros, 11%, which makes this cut even more serious since, with that growth, the investment in Lanzarote should be 131 million euros," he pointed out.
"Budgetary shell game"
Corujo has announced that, in addition to this "inexplicable and unacceptable" drop in investments destined for Lanzarote, the budgets include a item from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (MRR), for 25.2 million euros, which corresponds to a regional call and not for Lanzarote.
"Now, with that new data, we can say that the real investments planned for Lanzarote are only 80 million euros, because to the 105.3 that appear painted in the budget we have to subtract the 25.3 of those fraudulent MRRs," Corujo denounced.
The island secretary of the PSOE has explained that this "budgetary shell game" places Lanzarote in an unsustainable situation: "When we should have reached 131 million euros in investment, taking into account the increase in the regional budget, we are left with 80 million. 51 million less than what corresponds to us, 39% less than what we should have received".
