The PSC of Teguise requests that the works be stopped on the Caleta de Famara farm that has palm trees

Following the complaint made this Thursday by the Caleta Famara neighborhood association to prevent the owner of a plot of land in the town from continuing with construction work in the area, since it implies that some palm trees, practically the only ones in the town, are being uprooted, the Socialist Party of Teguise presented in the plenary session of this Friday of the northern Corporation requesting "that the immediate cessation of work on the farm on Avenida del Marinero be decreed, while trying to reach an agreement with the owner of the same or compensate him and the area remains as a green area owned by the Council".

The socialists of Teguise have sent a press release to the editors of this newspaper in which they state that "while respecting the right of its legitimate owner to build on his farm due to its urban nature, we can observe that this area, due to daily use by the residents, has been used as a green area, one of the few that Caleta de Famara has".

The land, which has an approximate extension of 1,000 square meters, was once a green area. However, three years ago the Council approved the subsidiary regulations and reclassified a part of about 800 square meters as developable.

Despite the change, when the Canary Islands Government's Master Plan for Use and Management was put to public display last year, the mayor of Teguise, Juan Pedro Hernández, promised the residents to intercede with the regional Executive to admit an allegation "in which we asked that it not be built", commented Miguel Ferrer, secretary of the Playa Famara - La Marquesa Neighborhood Association.

For its part, the City Council defends that its purpose is to maintain the area as it is. In fact, the owner of the land presented a project to be given the license a few months ago and has not yet obtained the permit.

Meanwhile, the City Council is negotiating with the owner either an exchange of land or the purchase of the same. Another possibility will be to move the green area to another place. However, the residents are opposed to this option. For this they argue that they do not want the area to be taken to the surroundings of the town where it borders with rustic land as the Timanfaya National Park is located, so it could not be built.
