The Popular Party of Teguise has presented an urgent motion to the municipal plenary session held this Wednesday in which it requests the government group to promote the convocation of the Assembly of the Island Water Consortium to address, among other issues, "the problems of drinking water supply that have occurred on the island of La Graciosa since last Thursday that kept the residents without water for four days".

For the popular party, it is "essential" that the Consortium demand that Canal Gestión "review the infrastructures and equipment that is being used to bring water to the eighth island", as well as "the availability of the tanks that exist in Caleta de Sebo". "Apparently, these cisterns were curiously empty", they point out from the Popular Party.

"In recent years, these problems have increased, with cuts lasting for days and Canal Gestión not using the cisterns located in the La Vista area, ceded to the company as a contingency tool in case of lack of supply,” says the PP councilor, Nieves Arrocha.

Arrocha also denounces "the discomfort of some residents who have small agricultural farms and who, due to the lack of pressure, have been without continuous supply for more than two months".

“The worst thing is that neither Canal Gestión nor the Consortium inform about the cuts or the estimated duration, so it is impossible for the residents to organize themselves and it also ends up harming visitors and the image of the island,” the popular party points out in its motion. In addition, they also highlight the situation of the pumps located in the salt flats area of El Risco, “out in the open, without any type of protection and in view of any unscrupulous person who wants to do the evil of leaving La Graciosa without water”.

“It is the function of the Island Water Consortium, where all the municipalities of the island and the Island Council of Lanzarote are represented, to ensure the proper use and supply of water on the island, demanding that the concessionaire company comply with the service, and that is what we want to be formalized by the municipal government,” Arrocha concludes.
