The president of the PP in Lanzarote and councilor in the Arrecife City Council, Ástrid Pérez, fears that the capital will lose the 3.4 million euros budgeted for social housing. According to the popular representative, "with ten days left before the deadline given by the Government of the Canary Islands for the transfer of land for the construction of social housing in the Maneje area, the Arrecife City Council has not yet complied with this procedure."
Pérez is thus "enormously concerned about the possibility that the socialist mayor, Eva de Anta, will be unable to materialize the transfer of land before the 31st of this month and Arrecife will be left out of the promotion of public housing that the regional executive contemplates for our island."
"The construction of this hundred homes in Arrecife is a priority issue for which the residents of Lanzarote have been battling for years without receiving a response from the Government of CC. If, at this point, with 3.4 million euros budgeted, the PSOE is not able to comply with the procedure and the project does not go ahead, we would be facing one of the biggest attacks on social matters in the history of Arrecife," she considers.
She believes it would be "a colossal political failure"
For Pérez, this would be "a colossal political failure, which would leave behind the hundred families for whom this project is the only tangible possibility today of accessing a home, since the scarcity of supply is one of the most serious social problems that Lanzarote has."
"It is a shame that at this point in the month the socialist mayor Eva de Anta has not communicated absolutely anything about it and we continue with the uncertainty of whether the municipal government of PSOE and PIL will be able to manage the transfer of land against the clock," points out Pérez, who also points out "that it is a procedure that is not complicated and that could even have been advanced."
"The only ones to blame will be the PSOE and the parties that support it"
The president of the PP of Lanzarote adds that "if the Arrecife City Council does not comply, that money will go again to other municipalities that are in a position to invest it." "A serious, committed and socially sensitive government would have put its batteries in from minute one to avoid falling into the same mistakes as already happened with the land of Argana Alta for the Health Center, which lost the money, or the Arus of Valterra and Titerroy, for which the extension of the project was not even requested," she adds.
The popular representative criticizes "the apathy and detachment that the PSOE is demonstrating with everything that has to do with the city of Arrecife, without caring about the millions of euros that are lost or the damage that is done to the citizens."
"This lack of sensitivity and commitment is difficult to understand in a party that boasts of being socialist and left-wing. This is the way in which the PSOE works and fights for the most needy, governing against the citizens supported by the rest of the opposition parties, Podemos, Ciudadanos and Somos, who also do not seem to care about the residents of Arrecife," says the island leader of the PP, who thus considers that "if Arrecife loses the 3.4 million euros for social housing, the only ones to blame will be the PSOE and the parties that support it"
