The councilors of the Popular Party in the Yaiza City Council, Juan Monzón and Guayo Rodríguez, have denounced that "in many streets" of the tourist area of Playa Blanca, garbage has not been collected for a week. "It is the residents of the affected areas who, once again, alert us to the lack of service and the terrible situation in which the container areas are due to the total overflow of the deposits," said the municipal spokesperson and local president, Juan Monzón.
"It should be remembered that just a month ago, the government of Yaiza, presided over by Mayor Óscar Noda, announced the update of the fee for the provision of the service to the company Urbaser, and we were sold that the increase in the amount would serve to optimize the service and increase the technical resources by the company, since it was an absolutely necessary aspect for its proper functioning," the party said in a statement.
Far from all this, and as we have learned to this day, not only have the resources not been increased, but, "on many occasions, the service to the entire municipality is provided with a single truck, when there has not even been a case of having all the vehicles broken down at the same time," they say from the PP.
Monzón insists that the garbage problem in Yaiza "comes from afar" and recalls that this government "has spent more than five years without putting the new service out to public tender after a first attempt forced the council to reverse the file. A terrible management that means that five years later the same problem continues, and raising objections every time a payment has to be made to the company," says Monzón.
"All this shows that the mayor and his team are far from providing a definitive solution to a problem that directly and very negatively affects the image of the town. And while this is happening, the mayor is now dedicated to visiting neighborhood associations in other municipalities, when he would be better off attending to his own first," the political formation denounced.
