The councilors of the Popular Party in the Yaiza City Council, Juan Monzón and Guayo Rodríguez, have asked the mayor of the municipality, Óscar Noda, to improve the information and service for depositing the garbage of the users of the Papagayo beaches.
In this regard, the popular party points out that, on Tuesday afternoon, the official social networks of the Yaiza City Council published an image of one of the parking lots of the Papagayo beaches, where many garbage bags deposited by users could be seen. The image was accompanied by a call to the civility and responsibility of the users, stating that these wastes had been collected last Sunday.
"The popular party of Yaiza joins this call to the responsibility of each one, and to the civility of those who enjoy a unique natural environment, since the chain begins in the users themselves so that the Natural Park of Los Ajaches presents an environmental image according to its status as a protected area," says the municipal spokesperson of the PP, Juan Monzón.
"However, what we do demand from the Yaiza government group is that it provide users with all the information, as well as the tools and facilities possible to dispose of the garbage they generate," he stresses.
A company "reluctant" to access the parking lots of the beaches
The PP councilors claim to be aware that "the company that currently provides the garbage collection service in the municipality of Yaiza is reluctant to have its vehicles enter the parking lots of each beach due to the poor condition of the tracks, as was done previously, and that the municipal staff themselves have been in charge of transferring the waste to the entrance Taro".
"Once the state of alarm was decreed, all the containers were removed from the beaches, placing them at the entrance to the Natural Park, but in the right lane of entry and not in the exit lane where it would be logical. This means that users are forced to take it out in their car or carry it to the entrance Taro in case they enter walking or by bicycle, but then to deposit it in the containers they must go around from one side to the other of the entrance track, they add.
For the popular party, "the biggest problem is that all these actions have not been accompanied by information to the user". "We miss the fact that the Taro itself does not inform users of the duty to take the waste to the exit, as well as the presence of informative signs in the parking lots reminding users that they must leave their waste in the deposits located at the exit," explains Juan Monzón.
They will raise a motion to the plenary session
With everything that has happened, the PP councilors announce that they will raise a motion to the plenary session where they will request an environmental awareness and information campaign aimed at the users of Los Ajaches, the delivery of brochures together with the entrance where users are informed in several languages of the rules of civility in the natural environment and its beaches and the installation of informative panels in the parking lots reminding them of the duty to take out the garbage generated and compliance with the sanctioning ordinances.
Likewise, they ask to adapt and signpost a container area in the exit lane next to the Taro, where the cleaning operators can wash and disinfect the area; and install selective collection containers for proper recycling, giving "a modern and clean image to visitors".
