The island president of the Popular Party, Astrid Pérez, has expressed her "satisfaction" with the announcement by Bankia, which will finally maintain its office in La Graciosa, and has attributed this decision to "the efforts made by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism of the State Government, José Manuel Soria, before the president of Bankia".

After several days of protests from different fronts, including institutional meetings and a gathering of the people of La Graciosa at the doors of Bankia, the entity has made its decision public this Tuesday, assuring that it responds to its "social commitment to the Canary Islands."

However, in a statement, Ástrid Pérez points out that the change is due to the "commitment that the highest authority of the banking entity has acquired with Minister Soria, as it means excluding the La Graciosa office from the restructuring plan announced by Bankia weeks ago."

The PP, which last week already sent a statement announcing that it would ask Bankia to reconsider its decision, has now reiterated "the importance that this office has for the residents of La Graciosa, as well as the need to always keep in mind the unique geographical conditions that the eighth island has."

"Good news"

Ástrid Pérez has highlighted that "without a doubt, this is very good news for the people of La Graciosa, and in general for all the citizens of Lanzarote, who are aware that those most harmed by the plans and the entity's sanitation policy were precisely the inhabitants of La Graciosa".

"In this case, I believe that we have all shared their concern and, consequently, also the peace of mind that now comes from knowing that the banking entity has understood the particular circumstances of the island and that it will keep open the only office that, on the other hand, exists in La Graciosa," Pérez insisted.

The president of the Populars acknowledges that the closure of branches in different parts of Lanzarote also causes disruptions, "but never comparable to the damages that would result from having to move from one island to another to carry out any financial transaction."
