Photos Sergio Betancort The Lanzarote Independent Party (PIL) presented last night all its leading candidates to the Lanzarote institutions and the Parliament of the Canary Islands. The candidate for the Cabildo is Fabián Martín, son of the historical leader of the formation, Dimas Martín, who in his speech asked "not to be compared or demanded to be like my father." The candidate for mayor of Arrecife is Antonio Hernández, currently president of the PIL, who advocated for social improvements and investments for the capital.
The list for the Canarian Parliament is headed by Isaac Castellanos, who referred to problems such as immigration "that should have started to be dealt with when pateras were already arriving in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote ten years ago", education, indicating that the Canary Islands is the community with the highest rate of school failure, or the Statute, which he assured leaves the community "as second-class".
About 400 people filled the Teatro del Cine Atlántida hall to also meet the candidates for the mayoralties of the municipalities. Juan Betancor heads the list for Haría to "recover a sunken north" and "follow the one who championed the seven green stars", he said, referring to his deceased son who also belonged to the Lanzarote Independent Party. Manuel Cabrera will be the candidate to govern Tías, who presents himself with "desire and enthusiasm to fight for an island more damaged than ever".
Gladys Acuña, councilor in the Yaiza City Council in the opposition, returns as the head of the list for her municipality, promising to govern with transparency and at the service of the citizens. The son of the party leader, José Dimas, will also try to become the mayor of Teguise. Regarding the municipality, he highlighted the situation of the town of Costa Teguise "where I promise to reduce taxes that are now double those in other places" and facilitate housing for young people. In addition, José Dimas had harsh words for the mayor of Arrecife, Isabel Déniz, whom he criticized for the house that, according to the PIL, she is building in the town of Los Valles and of which he said that after the elections "she will dedicate herself to agriculture".
The PIL takes Concepción Álvarez to the San Bartolomé City Council, which the candidate criticized for the lack of services and a future plan for the municipality. Finally, the candidate for Tinajo is Santiago Navarro, who accused the current Government group (CC) of abuse of power and waste.
REMEMBER
During the act there was no lack of references and applause towards Dimas Martín, who is currently in the Tahíche prison for the Agroindustrial Complex case. Thus, at the beginning of the act, a video was shown in which images of the party leader could be seen recalling his "transitory absences". In addition, during practically the entire act, his image was projected on a central screen of the stage where the candidates gave their speeches in which there was also no lack of allusions to Dimas Martín.
The party spokesman and candidate for the Tías City Council asked for an ovation "that can be heard in Tahíche", he spoke of the fact that the imprisonment of Dimas Martín has been caused "by our enemies" although this will not prevent, according to several candidates, the PIL from being the most voted force in the next elections.
