The Mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, has presented his management report during this legislature, in which 60 million euros have been invested in the municipality, especially in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen. The mayor has announced this document, part of which he already advanced a month ago in a meeting with the media, which includes the management of the municipal group since 2007. That is, both with the government group formed by PIL-PSOE and with the current one, formed by the socialists and Coalición Canaria.

In the last four years, Tías has invested more than 60 million euros. Of these, 27 million euros correspond to investments from the Central Government, 17.5 from the Government of the Canary Islands, 16.4 from the City Council and 1.1 from the Cabildo. Most of the investments have been concentrated in Puerto del Carmen with tourist infrastructure works valued at 11.8 million. Thus, the Central Avenue has been rehabilitated, the lighting and paving of streets has been improved, as well as the signage and tourist spaces.

In addition, of the 20 million invested in hydraulic infrastructures, 19.8 were also left in Puerto del Carmen for rainwater sanitation and 116,000 for channeling in Bajamar and Reina Sofia streets. The rest was executed in the town of Tías in the channeling of rainwater, in Las Cuestas, and in the sanitation in Lugar de Arriba and Barranco de Las Truchas. The expansion of the Port of La Tiñosa, with 13.8 million euros, is another of the major investments also executed in Puerto del Carmen.

The Mayor of Tías also wanted to mention the improvements to educational facilities in the Mácher-La Asomada school, cultural infrastructures, such as the expansion of the municipal theater, and health facilities such as the expansion of the Puerto del Carmen clinic. He also highlighted the works in the Civil Guard barracks, as well as the construction of the Social Welfare and Family Center and the Youth Center.

"We agree that the important thing is not the works but the people. The quality of life of the residents. For this reason, we have dedicated significant resources to helping those most in need, promoting employment, training young people, sports schools, cultural activities and a lot of other actions," said the mayor, who has invited residents to learn about this entire management report on the municipal website www.ayuntamientodetias.es.

Necessary investments for the residents

The mayor also stressed that the investments have been made "in accordance with the priorities set by the needs and the residents with their demands and that are distributed throughout all areas and towns of the municipality." Thus, he pointed out that more than 530,000 euros have been invested in commercial infrastructures, which have focused mainly on the town center of Tías, where there has been a commitment to its revitalization. In addition, the surroundings of the church of La Candelaria and the socio-cultural centers have been conditioned and a municipal swimming pool and the sports court on Terrero street, in Puerto del Carmen, have been built.

Finally, he also defended the implementation of the Anti-Crisis Plan that sought to give greater prominence to Social Services "at a time when the economic conditions of citizens worsened." In this sense, the Social Welfare Center was built, included in Plan E, with an investment of 416,000 euros.

Cruz Saavedra, in addition to recalling the significant number of basic actions and investments in the different towns of the municipality, cited as essential "the financing of sports schools, cultural activities and aid to students because these policies are essential to guarantee a present and future quality of life."
