The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León Machín, met this Friday with the superior chief of Police of the Canary Islands, the main commissioner Jesús María Gómez Martín, who has more than 37 years of experience in the force.
Yonathan de León welcomed the superior chief of Police of the Canary Islands to the city of Arrecife, in this special year for the city where the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife is commemorated, and conveyed the commitment of the Arrecife City Council to continue collaborating in all matters involving both institutions to guarantee the safety of citizens in the capital of Lanzarote.
During the past 2023, Arrecife, as the capital of Lanzarote, has been the epicenter in the arrival of rescued boats to its port area, with a high increase in the arrival of boats to the coasts of Lanzarote.
The mayor of Arrecife has thanked the Principal Commissioner, head of the National Police in the Canary Islands, for this visit, who was accompanied by the Commissioner, head of the National Police in Arrecife, José Luis Gutiérrez Redondo.
Yonathan de León has also congratulated the National Police on the 200th anniversary of its foundation, and has expressed his willingness, to jointly from the City Council and its Local Police Force - of which he is directly responsible, to continue working on direct actions that allow progress in matters of citizen security.
Jesús María Gómez Profile
A native of Zaragoza, Gómez joined the National Police Force in 1987, in 2002 he was promoted to chief inspector and in 2011 he acquired the rank of commissioner. Five years later he obtained the highest category of the National Police with his promotion to principal commissioner. In his professional career he has assumed different responsibilities in the Training Division, as a teacher, and in the Deputy Directorate General of the Technical Cabinet as head of the Protocol Service.
Between 2012 and 2017 he was responsible for the border post of La Junquera (Girona), head of the police station in the central district of Seville, head of the local police station of Parla and head of the operational service, both in the Central Brigade of Narcotics (UDYCO) and in the Central Unit of Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Forgery (UCRIF).
Since 2017 he held the head of the border post of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport. In 2022 he was appointed head of the National Police in the Canary Islands.
