The General Director of Emergencies, Fernando Figuereo, formalized in Lanzarote the delivery of ten One Up devices to the NGO Emerlan, an entity with an outstanding track record in rescue, civil protection and health care in the island and maritime area in the islands of Lanzarote, La Graciosa and Fuerteventura.

The transfer, made through an order signed by the Minister of Territorial Policy, Manuel Miranda, is part of the strategy of the Government of the Canary Islands to strengthen prevention and response to situations of risk of drowning on the coasts of the archipelago.

During the delivery ceremony, Figuereo highlighted the usefulness of these devices, since "the One Up represents a tool of great value for the first interventions at sea. It is light and easy to transport, quick to activate and can make a difference in the first seconds of an emergency."

In addition, he stressed the importance of providing organizations such as EMERLAN with means to optimize their response capacity, considering the fundamental role they play in the management of emergencies in aquatic and tourist environments such as the Canary Islands.

A smart and 100% Canarian life preserver

One Up is a compact and lightweight device (370 grams, 18 cm long) developed by Canarian entrepreneurs. Upon contact with water, it automatically inflates in less than two seconds, taking the shape of a horseshoe float. Its design allows it to be launched from land, boats, drones or even helicopters.

This system has been successfully implemented on different beaches of the archipelago through totems powered by solar energy that, when activated, alert 1-1-2 Canarias. Its use has been extended to multiple municipalities and emergency organizations, consolidating itself as a key resource in the prevention of drowning.

With this initiative, the Government of the Canary Islands "reaffirms its commitment to citizen security, promoting technological innovation of local origin and strengthening collaboration with specialized entities such as Emerlan".
