The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands has put out to tender the competition to contract the works for the 134 public housing units in Maneje. With an investment of 19.6 million euros, these social houses become the first to be built by the Canary Islands Executive in Lanzarote in the last 27 years.
This initiative is part of the objectives of the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025 to expand the public housing stock and serve the families on the island registered on the list of applicants.
Construction companies interested in this contract have until June 1 to submit bids, so it is estimated that the award will take place in the summer. This batch of 134 homes will be followed in the coming weeks by the tender for a third building with 67 more protected homes until completing the 201 homes that the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025 plans to build in this Arrecife neighbourhood.
The new homes will be built on land ceded to the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI) by the Arrecife City Council in 2020, located in the Los Geranios de Maneje urbanisation. The new 134 homes will be distributed in two adjoining buildings of 67 properties each.
By type, 10% of the new homes will have one bedroom, 20% will have two bedrooms, 60% will have three bedrooms, and another 10% will have four bedrooms. Likewise, within the corresponding quotas of two and three bedrooms, there are six homes for people with reduced mobility and three supervised homes with five bedrooms. All homes have a parking space and a storage room located in the corresponding basements of each of the buildings. These basements will be connected to each other, thus complying with the applicable urban planning regulations.
The construction of each of the buildings, with 67 homes each, will be around 10 million euros and 713,016 euros have already been invested by the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI) in the drafting of projects. The plots where these three buildings will be built are also around 2,540 square meters each. It is estimated that the duration of the works will be 20 months, so the homes could be finished and ready to be delivered in the spring of 2025.
