The Electoral Board has ordered the immediate cessation of the campaign undertaken by the Chamber of Commerce, which had announced a round of meetings with companies from all the neighborhoods of the capital to try to influence the upcoming elections in Arrecife. In addition, the Board has agreed to open a sanctioning file to the Chamber, as well as to transfer it to the Guard Court, in case the facts were "constitutive of a crime".

This was announced this Tuesday by the PSOE, which was the one who addressed the Board last Friday, accusing the Chamber of having started a "dirty", "intolerable" and "undemocratic" campaign against the current mayor, Eva de Anta, also with the help of other employers' associations on the island. Now, this body has agreed with them, suspending the planned events and also opening the door for responsibilities to be pursued for having violated the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG).

The decision has been adopted and notified this Tuesday, forcing the Chamber to suspend the meeting scheduled for this same day, which was the first to be held. In fact, some businessmen had come to the headquarters and have been notified that the meeting could not be held.

In its resolution, the Board agrees to require the Chamber of Commerce and "any other promoting, participating and/or collaborating entities to suspend the campaign", canceling the planned events and proceeding to the "immediate withdrawal of any type of advertising". In addition, it includes an "express warning to refrain in the future from repeating behaviors such as the one indicated and other similar ones".

Similarly, it agrees to open a file for alleged violation of article 50.5 of the LOREG, which establishes that "no legal person" other than the political parties themselves "may carry out an electoral campaign from the date of the call for elections".

Finally, regarding the request also made by the PSOE to file a criminal complaint, the Board has deemed it pertinent to transfer the facts to the Arrecife Duty Court for study.
