The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, said this Monday that the dependency data in the Canary Islands are "alarming" and "the worst in Spain", with an average of 927 days to resolve the files, so he has demanded an increase in personnel and improvements in the computer system to link it to the Canary Health Service (SCS).

In the presentation of the annual report before the Commission of Governance, Autonomous Development, Justice and Security, he announced that the Deputation of the Common will make a comparative study on the means that the autonomous community has to manage dependency. For the moment, as an example, he pointed out that the Canary Islands only have 64 assessors compared to the 800 in Castilla y León or 706 in Galicia, communities with a similar population number, above two million inhabitants.

Yanes has recognized the improvement experienced in the islands during the pandemic, but understands that it is "insufficient", detailing some practical cases such as a young woman who died this year and without a response after requesting a degree recognition in December 2016, or appeals from citizens presented in 2015 and that are now being answered.

"Something is happening here", warned the Deputy of the Common, stressing that it has gone from 510 days of waiting in 2018 to 927 in 2020. Thus, he has not ignored the share of responsibility of the State, which does not contribute 50 percent of the financing, nor the weight of the shock plan launched by the regional Executive, with 100 new workers, but of which only 26 represent an additional increase to the current 64.

Yanes has also defended the independence and rigor of the institution he chairs "whoever governs" in the institutions, and with a total of 2,904 complaints processed in 2020, which has meant an increase of 11.18 percent compared to 2019, with more than 70 percent processed correctly and the recovery in favor of citizens of more than 122,000 euros.

In addition, he detailed that complaints increased despite the fact that in the first quarter of last year, due to confinement, they fell by 41%.
