Since 9:00 in the morning, five Binter company planes have been diverted to Tenerife South airport from Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and Fuerteventura, as well as an Air Berlin aircraft from Dusseldörf (Germany). Also, from Lanzarote, the departure of a flight scheduled for 10:10 am has been cancelled. In addition, an Islas plane that departed from Gran Canaria had to return to Gando Airport.

These diversions have had to be made due to a fixed fog bank, which has been installed this Thursday morning in the surroundings of the Tenerife Norte-Los Rodeos airport. This fact has forced the cancellation and diversion of several flights to Tenerife South, due to low visibility, according to ACN Press sources from Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA).

Likewise, the same sources reported that the departures of three planes bound for La Palma, Fuerteventura and El Hierro have been cancelled, so the airport is inoperative.

However, the situation seems to be improving, as the fog bank has been lifting, AENA said.
