The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard is investigating alleged irregularities in a cockfighting arena in Teguise for the alleged existence of a case of animal abuse.

In this regard, SEPRONA has requested information from the Local Police of Teguise and has asked the agents to carry out their investigations to clarify these facts, as explained to La Voz by Ginés González, Councilor for Animal Welfare and Local Police of the municipality.

In addition, the investigated cockfighting arena has been asked for documentation and its inspection to be able to verify whether or not it complies with current regulations.

Although bullfights are prohibited in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, cockfights are allowed by Law 8/1991, which excludes this activity from animal protection laws.
