The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation welcomes the arrest in Spain of Ante Gotovina and hopes that the arrest will constitute a step forward for the stability of the Balkans and serve to facilitate Croatia's rapprochement with European institutions, "an approach that Spain has always firmly supported," it informs in a press release.
Gotovina is accused by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia of having committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war that followed the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. According to the Ministry, this arrest is "one more expression of the intense collaboration that Spain maintains with said Tribunal in different areas."
