The Cabildo of Lanzarote, meeting in the Governing Council, has approved the conditions by which the Port Authority of Las Palmas will grant the island corporation the concession of public domain of the Punta Delgada lighthouse, in Alegranza, for a period of eight years.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has highlighted the importance of achieving this concession, which will allow the Corporation to continue promoting actions to protect the biodiversity and environment of the island, also taking advantage of "a privileged place for the observation and study of different animal species with high scientific interest, such as the lighthouse, whose knowledge will contribute to its better conservation".

Specifically, the island Cabildo has requested to occupy a public domain area of 164.41 square meters with the aim of developing permanent activities related to surveillance for the conservation of the environment and natural resources, the monitoring of natural processes and the realization of activities and campaigns.

The island Corporation also intends to carry out specific volunteer initiatives and campaigns related to the cleaning, collection and evacuation of all types of waste or support for specific scientific activities on fauna, flora and geology.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote also proposes to promote other specific activities such as conducting studies on natural and fishing resources, marine and terrestrial habitats, climate and volcanism, in addition to carrying out other works that contribute to ensuring the safety, surveillance and conservation of the lighthouse and its surroundings.
