The Insular Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote will address this Monday, May 18, the definitive approval of the management agreements to be signed with the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Waters of the Government of the Canary Islands for the formulation, processing and approval of the Tourism Modernization, Improvement and Competitiveness Plan (PMM) of Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, as well as the Third Modernization Plan of Costa Teguise.

The approval of these agreements will allow the Cabildo of Lanzarote to be entrusted with the formulation and processing of both urban planning instruments, enabling the island institution to tender the contracting of the technical assistance necessary for their drafting.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, considers that these plans are fundamental to order the tourist growth of two of the main tourist centers of the island from a planning adapted to the current reality of Lanzarote. "The ability for the Cabildo itself to formulate these documents allows for faster processes and to advance with greater knowledge of the territory and the real needs of each enclave," he added.

For his part, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Jesús Machín, highlighted that "the elaboration of these plans will allow the updating of the tourist and urban planning of Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise under criteria of quality, sustainability and legal certainty." "In the specific case of Playa Blanca, this document is especially important after the annulment of the General Plan of Yaiza, as it will provide a stable urban planning framework that offers guarantees to both administrations and tourism operators," he pointed out.

The Tourism Modernization, Improvement and Competitiveness Plans aim to raise the quality and category of tourist establishments and complementary offerings, improve the image of consolidated centers, and reinforce public services, equipment, and facilities. Likewise, these instruments seek to prevent residentialization processes in tourist areas and adapt urban planning to the new demands of the sector.
