The Cabildo of Lanzarote foresees the creation of 560 jobs directly through the various employment programs launched in 2018, according to the island's Minister of Employment, Manuel Cabrera, in a meeting held with representatives of the opposition parties to inform them of the balance of actions carried out by the aforementioned area in 2017 and those programmed for this year. The Minister appreciates "the ideas contributed by these parties to promote job creation on the island, as did unions, employers and town councils in their day".
Cabrera considered 2017 as a "numerically satisfactory year in terms of the level of reduction in the number of unemployed in Lanzarote, the island where unemployment fell the most in the Canary Islands in percentage terms". "And although there is still much to be done and we are working on it, the actions undertaken by the Employment Area have undoubtedly influenced the achievement of this good data, which has not been in vain recognized by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands himself as innovative projects," he said.
In this context, Manuel Cabrera reported that through these actions aimed at promoting employability, in 2017 "more than 370 direct jobs were created on the island". In addition, in the training field "more than 510 people were able to access different certified courses with licenses or titles that we hope have served to improve their employment opportunities and especially so that the necessary and trained labor required by companies can come as much as possible from residents on the island." In addition, in 2017 "substantial subsidies were successfully announced for the creation of small businesses that can generate jobs and the town councils were provided with 1,050,000 euros for municipal employment plans," added the Minister.
Increase in amounts in 2018
As for 2018, the Department of Employment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote plans to "increase the economic amounts aimed at employment programs by which the awarded companies will carry out a permanent cleaning of the island, with means and trained personnel", according to Manuel Cabrera, who added that they will also continue to "bet on excellence in training, programming training actions with certification for 920 people, as well as helping the self-employed and promoting the creation and growth of small businesses, with the aim of diversifying the economy and generating wealth and employment".
Cabrera also highlighted "the important effort that the Employment Area will make to help in the hiring of university graduates or Vocational Training to those companies that need them, because qualification undoubtedly generates greater wealth for the island and therefore new jobs; and we will again announce aid aimed at creating companies, supporting island entrepreneurs".
On the other hand, this year "the town councils will be provided with a new record figure of 1.4 million euros for different projects, with special emphasis on the recovery of stone walls of roads or paths and for the beautification of the entrances to the villages", added the Minister, who on the other hand hoped that "in 2019 the island will begin to look as clean as it deserves with the implementation of the projects included under the name 'We Love Lanzarote'", for which he asked for "the collaboration of all Lanzarote residents".
