The Cabildo of Lanzarote has started the placement of the new lampposts to improve energy efficiency and the renovation of all the public lighting on Avenida Cocederos, the Costa Teguise promenade.
The vice president and Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, and the island official for Energy, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, visited the site to monitor this action to advance towards energy efficiency in key areas of the Island. Also present were the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, the deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism of the City Council, Rita Hernández, and the Councilor for Municipal Roads and Works, Eugenio Robayna.
The vice president and Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo, as well as the head of the FDCAN at the island level, Jacobo Medina, assured that this measure aims to "improve public infrastructures, thus satisfying the needs of the population." He also explained that this project had an investment of close to 800,000 euros, co-financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). "The action responds to a demand from the citizens," he specified.
For his part, the Councilor for Energy, Miguel Ángel Jímenez, detailed that "the public lighting network will be made up of 133 efficient light points" and highlighted "the realization of the necessary canalizations for the undergrounding of the electrical lines, as well as the installation of a new protection and control panel."
Miguel Ángel Jiménez clarified that these efficient lampposts seek to preserve and care for the environment. "Our objective is to reduce fossil fuels on the Island, betting on renewables," added Jímenez.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, indicated that these lighting improvement works "represent a great advance for the town." "Citizens will be able to transit one of the most important arteries with total security and tranquility," she declared.
The lighting improvement project covers the entire avenue, starting from the Casa del Rey to the Muelle de Las Cucharas, also renovating Playa Bastián and Playa Jablillo.
