The Cabildo of Lanzarote is working to ensure that company and workers reach an agreement as soon as possible that allows the service to be normalized, the demand for which has not stopped growing in recent months thanks to the measures promoted by the Government group chaired by Oswaldo Betancort.
"The Cabildo of Lanzarote defends the interests of the island's citizens in relation to the labor conflict between the staff of the concessionary company of the interurban passenger transport service, Arrecife Bus S.L., and the Federation of Services to the Citizenry of CCOO Canarias", they have stressed.
The Councilor for Transport and Mobility, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who maintains permanent contact with the concessionaire, recalls that, although the Cabildo lacks decision-making power in the internal negotiations between the company and the staff, the Corporation does have the obligation to guarantee the essential mobility of users. In this sense, the Cabildo recently decreed minimum services of 70% on strike days, ensuring the connectivity of the population with hospitals, educational centers and other basic infrastructures, as well as attention to vulnerable groups
The Cabildo of Lanzarote reiterates "its confidence that workers and the company will soon reach an understanding that puts an end to the intermittent stoppages that affect island mobility", and thanks the "understanding shown by the citizens during this situation".
Eight million in bonuses to guarantee free travel in 2024
The island's Government group recalls that during the current term, an annual millionaire investment has been consolidated for the improvement and modernization of public transport. And thanks to this, in the first semester of 2025 the growth in demand reached more than 4 million passengers, an increase of 8.47% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Likewise, the Institution faces the 100% bonus on season tickets and multi-trip tickets for Canarian residents. These measures are added to others such as the acquisition of new sustainable buses, the creation of new preferential stops, the implementation of payment by bank card (speeding up service times), the launch of taxi-bus services, etc.
“These actions, many of them framed in the Island Plan for Sustainable Transport and Mobility, are a sample of the Cabildo's commitment to improving the quality of life of the population”, stressed President Oswaldo Betancort, who also recalled that in 2024 alone the Corporation allocated more than 8 million euros in bonuses to guarantee free transport.
"The Cabildo of Lanzarote will continue working to ensure that public transport continues to be a tool for social and territorial cohesion, while trusting that this conflict will be resolved for the benefit of workers, the company and, above all, the citizens", they concluded.
