The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its Employment Area, continues to lead actions that combine the generation of employment and environmental conservation through the FDCAN 2023-2026 Employment Plan. With a total investment of 13,610,571.34 euros, financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund, this new plan has allowed the hiring of 158 unemployed workers.

Divided into eight action lots, it covers a wide variety of interventions, from cleaning roads, trails and coastline, to the conservation of degraded agricultural spaces and the control of invasive flora in protected areas. In addition, it includes the cleaning of public domain areas in La Graciosa, strengthening the Cabildo's commitment to all the islands of the archipelago.

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, who visited the Plaza de La Candelaria in the town of Tías, together with the councilor of the Area, Ascen Toledo, and the mayor of the municipality, José Juan Cruz, highlighted the importance of this project: "The FDCAN Employment Plan is a clear example of how we can generate job opportunities while caring for and improving our natural environment. These initiatives not only reduce unemployment rates, especially among the most vulnerable groups, but also contribute to the sustainability and collective well-being of our island."

For her part, the Minister of Employment, Ascen Toledo, pointed out that "this program not only responds to the labor needs of people in vulnerable situations, but also provides professional experience and training that increases their future employability. The collaboration between institutions has been key to developing actions that positively impact all the municipalities of Lanzarote and La Graciosa."

Among the most outstanding actions are the cleaning of the coastline and collection of special waste in Zonzamas; the conservation and improvement of agricultural spaces in Guatiza, Mala and the surroundings of La Geria; the cleaning of public areas in La Graciosa and protected areas of El Jable; and the control of invasive flora in natural enclaves.

With a duration of three years, this program reaffirms the commitment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to employability and the conservation of the environment, demonstrating that economic development can go hand in hand with environmental sustainability.
