The Cabildo establishes a working group to study the problems affecting the island's rainwater and sanitation networks

The meeting held at the Cabildo of Lanzarote at the request of the President, who felt it necessary to bring together at the same table all the administrations and organizations that directly or indirectly have to do with the planning of the rainwater and sanitation networks of the island of Lanzarote, concluded with "the firm decision of all attendees to continue working together until the problems affecting the entire island in terms of rainwater channeling are resolved as much as possible, and their impact or incidence on the current and deficient infrastructure of the island's sanitation", said Pedro San Ginés at the end of this meeting in which representatives of the Government of the Canary Islands, the First Island Institution, the Water Consortium, the Island Water Council, the Arrecife City Council, Inalsa, and Filtered Waters were present.

As a first conclusion, it should be noted that "the priority is focused on finishing the phase of the rainwater project pending execution in Argana Alta, and acting in the area of the ravines located north of the capital", summarized the President of the Cabildo, the Water Consortium and the Island Water Council, an organization that will be responsible for coordinating the most urgent interventions.

Specifically, this first meeting, which is intended to have continuity, served to identify the origin of the problems that mainly affect the city of Arrecife when it rains heavily and its possible solutions.

In this way, the commitment was made for the Island Water Council to proceed with the demarcation of the channels of these ravines and their easement areas, that is, what is public domain, as a fundamental step to execute the necessary projects in the headwaters of the same located north of the city of Arrecife, "for which purpose a study of the possible alternatives will be commissioned immediately and which involve reducing the speed of the water, diverting part of its channel to other ravines or both, which may be complementary to each other".

In any case, the conclusion is that "the project of the rainwater work executed by the Ministry was deficient, so it will be necessary to seek financing through the State or the Canary Islands Government itself to complete it".
