The Cabildo of Lanzarote has begun the works for the renovation, legalization, and maintenance of the traffic light network in the municipality of Arrecife, actions whose objective is "the improvement of the safety conditions, conservation, and appearance of the capital."
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, pointed out the importance of having started actions "highly demanded by the citizens, and so important to improve the transit of vehicles and, above all, the safety of pedestrians and drivers."
The First Island Institution assumes this fundamental action to improve the safety of the residents of the capital "in the face of the more than demonstrated inability of the Arrecife City Council, which is counting this legislature with all the collaboration, availability, and possible financing lines from the Cabildo that it did not have in previous legislatures," Corujo stated.
"Through these works, we will contribute to improving the safety of drivers and pedestrians, increasing the fluidity of traffic in congested areas, and improving the energy efficiency of the capital's traffic light network system, also ensuring the sustainability and care of the environment on the Island," the president detailed.
The concessionaire company has already started with the installation of the new devices on Calle Manolo Millares and in the surrounding areas. A total of 194 traffic lights are expected to be installed, distributed among 17 areas of the city of Arrecife.
The island Cabildo awarded these actions for 1.53 million euros to the company Etra Bonal S.A., which has one year to execute the works. These aim at "the replacement of traffic lights, along with their columns, booms, and corresponding accessories, the replacement of the cabinets containing the traffic light control panels, and the replacement of the existing conduits for the low voltage network of the traffic light sets, among other improvements for circulation and for the energy efficiency of this system."
